It has been a rough couple of days and nights

Fortunately (Unfortunately?), nothing from the actual esophagectomy is bothering Jim.  However, the stay at the hospital and the recommended reclined position he sleep in, has seriously exacerbated his lower back pain.  Last night Jim hit bottom.  He barely ate anything.  All night, he couldn’t lay, sit or stand and not be in significant pain.  The last two times Jim tried to take his pain medication it only make him really, really nauseous.  So, this morning I dropped Sarah off at daycare, and took him to my favorite minor emergency clinic in Austin.  They have done really well at “fixing” us in the past.

The nurse practitioner asked a ton of questions, then felt Jim’s back.  Then, she had him take a few x-rays.  She took us out of the room to show us the x-rays.  With what my untrained eye saw, you could have knocked me over with a feather.  How in the world, with all the scans Jim has taken in the last year, has this not been caught?!  Sorry but Jim wants to be cautious, and not have me blather on about something that might be incorrect, until we see a specialist – hopefully next week.  I’m just so thankful that we have a diagnosis to work with, and that the muscle relaxers are working.  He’s asleep right now.

I am so sorry to hear that Jim has been having to fight yet another front. I am so glad that you have been able to get him relief and the rest that he needs to heal from the surgery. Beckie, I continue to hear gratitude in your writing. You are an amazing family that continues to deal with what is put before you with a lot of grace. The courage and patience that you guys exhibit through these setbacks are a testimony to us all!! We will keep the faith and keep you close to our hearts!
    Love,
    Stephanie
